Unit 23-Health and Safety Risk Assessment

Access and Exit
Audiences will need to be able to get in and out of the venue safely. These are multiple things that must be considered in order for this to be carried out affectively. No matter what size there will be security guards present to ID the audience members before they enter as all the event I came up with catered to 18+ as alcoholic beverages will be served in each one. The number of security guards will be determined by the size of the venue, as too little guards for a large venue could means checks woudn't be done properly as to speed up the process. There will have to be an equal amount of female and male guards as to not make certain genders being uncomfortable with being searched thoroughly by the opposite gender. Fire exits will be highlighted clearly in the event of a fire. The bigger the venue the more exits there will be to ensure that everyone gets out safely.

Trip or equipment hazards – Cable mats will be used so that cables are not exposed and so that no one can trip over them. Drinks will be served in plastic cups as to prevent glass from breaking and potentially cutting audience.

Crowd management hazards –Violence, fighting and or unwanted interactions with the performers will result in immediate departure from event. Security guard will be on standby ready if any altercations to occur. To prevent crowd crushing there will be wardens guiding people in the right direction to prevent this from happening.

Crew hazards – Every member will be trained how to lift heavy objects in the right way as to prevent harm. Hard hats will be a requirement for crew members that will have to fix things high up.

First aid hazards – Water will be handed out regularly so people do not get dehydrated. As it is a music event we could also get away with some form of air conditioning as the sound from the speakers will be much louder than that of the air con. There will be medical ready to help in an even that some gets heat stroke or a heart attack.

Fire hazards - Smoking will not be tolerated in the venue. Anyone caught will be asked to leave the premises.

Child protection hazards – There will be no children on the premises as ID check will be done before people even get in.
Sound and particularly volume is obviously a huge consideration at any music event. High sound levels can present a risk to the audience. This is both because of the effect high volume may have on hearing and because of the high levels of vibration. It is a requirement of The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Noise at Work Regulations 2005 [3] that employers and event organisers protect both their workers and audience from noise and vibrations. Sound and vibration levels should be monitored during rehearsal, along with sound check and performances to ensure full control is kept and adjustments can be made.
