Passive Listening is listening to music without actually focusing on the lyrics or melodies. So you can be cleaning or doing revision with music on used only as background noise.
Active listening is when you focus purely on the music, so you will try to interpret the lyrics, drum patterns and instrument used.
Empathetic listening is active listening but actually feeling the lyrics and the instruments used on an emotional level. Listening to sad music will bring this out
Critical Listening would be what you do when mixing. Constantly making adjustments to get the best sound possible, also it can be used when drawing inspiration from a track if you are going for a similar sound. Taking in all the things that make a track sound great; from the snare on the drums down to the reverb used on the vocals.
